Welcome to Year 11 Careers

In year 11, the students use the Career Kete as a resource booklet.
The Career Kete is a booklet designed by Careers NZ to help students think about their future.
The booklet enables students to gain an understanding of the tertiary options available to them and guides the them through a process of understanding different qualifications and how to understand the job market. The booklet is a tool to help students learn more about themselves and the skills they possess to enable them to have a successful future.
Decide and Prepare develops the career management competencies students need to make career-related decisions as they transition to further learning and work. The content is organised into the five areas:
  • Understand the tertiary options
  • Understand the job market
  • Plan my learning pathway
  • Prepare a CV
  • Develop job search skills.
The students will learn how to write a CV, prepare a cover letter and even helps the students learn to plan a budget to help them with their student loans or other allowances.

My Career Match - questionnaire

This year on the Year 11 Future Focus Day, the students completed a 15 minute questionnaire called MyCareerMatch.

This tool is to enable the students to start thinking about their future.

MyCareerMatch is based on proven behavioural and psychometric principals. Employment studies have shown that personality is a contributing factor for career success and the closer the behavioural match between you and the job requirements, the happier, more successful you will be.

Our Personality Style

MyCareerMatch looks at four basic personality styles:

Drivers    |    Promoters    |    Supporters    |    Analysers

When blended together in varying percentages these four personality styles make us who we are. Most people are a combination of two styles. The first style is your ‘Dominant Style’, this is the one that governs how you behave most of the time.
The second is your ‘Back Up’ style, it’s like your co-pilot and kicks in when there’s a need for balance.
Each student who completed the questionnaire received a comprehensive report.
A complete list of career options is included in each report.

Enjoy reading about your strengths and qualities and know that you are capable of building and developing on these throughout your life.
Hi from the
Careers Team!

It's time to really start thinking about the kind of career you would like to pursue.
What are your hopes and dreams for your future? Where do you see yourself in 5 years time, or even 10 years from now?

"The future depends on what you do today".

Whatever you decide to do, make sure it is something that makes you happy and fulfilled!
